A Pulp faction...

So along side my zombie project I am keen to start another campaign, this time based on a Pulp Egypt theme.  I feel that although I am still in the 'zone' for making modern terrain, I am a bit 'survivored' out and so am keen to paint something else.  Here is product of that keenness!!

The figures are not part of my christmas haul.  Rather they are the left overs from my previous Pulp attempt and the victims of Pulp burnout (I think it says in my profile that I suffer from magpie or 'oohh shiney!' syndrome :) I swap projects a lot! ).
Like my christmas present, these are also from Artizan and when I started to paint them I wondered why I had left them unattempted as they were such fun to paint - the models are so characterful!
When I start to flesh out more of the details of the campaign I am sure that these figures will form the core of one of the rival factions.  I'm not sure whether that will make them villains or not!
I've tried to use a natural palette with them all, emphasizing them being a group.  I feel that it has been successful.
I love this figure.  There used to be a cartoon called 'stop the pigeon' starring Dick Dastardly and Muttley (loved that dog!!! must find a figure for him as I have DD ).  He also had a sidekick, whose name escapes me, who had a very high collar to his coat that he used to hid in.  This figure reminds me very much of him.....  only with a machine gun!
The face masks on these look a little menacing,  making them more believable as villains.

I shall have to see if they do any more figures to go in this group.

Here is a group shot of the figures painted this week.  They have turned ok, I think, and have sort of rekindled my painting mojo and I am looking forward to painting some more for this project.

On the rules front, I purchased the new edition of 'Larger than life' by two hour wargames.  They seem an improvement of the first edition, which I have but have never played, seeming a more complete set of rules.  I am looking forward to giving them a go at some point, but that seems a little way off yet before I am in a position to do that.
That's all for this post so have a good remainder of the week.
thanks for looking.

  1. Thank you. Some figures are easier to paint than others. These were at the easier end of the spectrum....

  2. These are very well painted and I can certainly see why you'd be attracted to them. I, too, am a fan of Dastardly and Muttley and I can tell you that their two co-flyers in "Stop the Pigeon" were Zilly and Klunk. Zilly was the coward with the high collar, whilst Klunk was the engineer and wacky inventor. The first figure that you showed could well be Klunk. Now you just need to find a Muttley. I hope you succeed.

    1. I'd sort of half remembered Klunk but would never have remembered Zilly! I think you are right about the first one being Klunk so as I already have Dick Dastardly, I really do need to look around for a Muttley. Who would do an upright dog with medals on their chest!!!?
      Ohh... and a flight helmet...

  3. Great job CW! They certainly look like a bunch of "dastardly" villains. They would also make a nice gang in ATZ.

    1. Cheers Bob. Some figures are quite versatile and could fit into more than one genre easily. It's a good argument for buying them more than once...

  4. Terrific job CW. Absolutely fantastic painting. Love the whole Egyptian Pulp Mythos too. Be very interested if you find a Muttley... sounds like a terrific team-up for the Dark Knight ;-)
