to add to the storage problem!!

I feel quite positive about my terrain building for my modern city as I think I can see the end of the road as far as a building list goes.  I am going to try to make at least one of every building I have purchased, and more than one of some of them, and in addition to this I am going to complete my list of additional street furniture.  After this I have other terrain projects, and many more painting projects, to work on.
This week I have been working on the Auto park set.  It looks a bit rough in the photos and, while it is by no means perfect, it is a bit better than the photos suggest!!! (honest!)
I have had this set for quite a while and have put off making it for some reason.  I am not sure why this is so as it is a straight forward set and a different type of building to others I have already constructed.
There are three buildings in the set - a garage, a car sales room and a carwash, which I assume can be used together or individually as takes your fancy when building your board.  All will be useful as they are individually quite small buildings and so can be easily fill the edge zones of the table.

The carwash has print outs for the brushes, but for the life of me I couldn't understand how they went together!!  In the end I just left them off - it will probably make the inside more usable anyway.
The next is a car showroom.  I need to add a bigger sign to this as it isn't as obvious as it should be.  There are plenty of signs in the pack and so it is just a case of printing another out and mounting it on some card - will take a few minutes at worst.
The last of the three is the garage/workshop.  A nice building that could equally be part of a town centre or a back street/ suburban board.
The file also comes with lots(!) of vehicle kits, and I mean lots.  However, they look a little too fiddly for me and I am working on building up my metal car collection which means I probably won't build any.
Anyway, these are now balanced precariously on my already too full shelves.  I am planning on making a building a week until my internal builingometer registers 'full',  but that shouldn't be for a few weeks yet!
Thanks for reading, Have a good week everyone!

  1. I started to build this set of buildings a while ago (18 months?) but ran into trouble when some exceptionally hot weather delaminated all my part-made foamcore. It's good to see them completed, though - maybe I'll retry myself!

The Stoelzel's vehicles are generally fairly straightforward to build, though I find them slightly less easy than the WorldWorks kits. Mind you, the Stoelzel's vehicles are a more consistent scale; some of the other manufacturers kits vary hugely in size. The most difficult parts of them are probably the wheels (not hard, but boring because there are so many to do) and the windshields (Stoelzel's cars have curves where the windshield meets the hood - very awkward). Also I'd advise a beginner to avoid the open-top cars; they're more advanced than average!

    1. If I start it I can normally push through to the end, it's starting it that is usually the problem for me. Not sure what I would do if the whole build went bad though....
I have found a supply of cheap metal cars so will probably stick with them although there are some vehicles I need that I can't find in metal, such as a hummvee.

    1. I have been a bit slack on bat reps lately so will have to get the next one set up. I think I wanted to a bit more scenery first and have gotten a little distracted.....

  4. Very nice work. They all look great. Have you though of perhaps a large billboard type signage for the car showroom?

    1. Billboards are on my list and I have even found a source of coffee strirrers in order to make them! Just need to find from zabadak how he cuts them so neatly!

  5. Great buildings and very useful as well. I, too, would like to make at least one of each building I own but I have so many I fear it'll take me a lifetime!

    1. That's the price you pay for the quality of your buildings. I wish I had your talent and patience but I don't so 'rough and ready' it is!

  6. Great job on these CW! They look extremely useful, as you said for both urban and suburban setups. Would be nice to see them in a batrep. You'll have to build a real building to keep all your buildings in.

    1. I do need to look at my storage issues! I might try and set up a game soon as I know I'm overdue for the next one.

  7. Great set of buildings, very useful additions to any city set-up.
Signage always helps make the buildings 'pop' that little bit more.
Not one of stirrers are cut accurately, I tend to go for a "that'll do" approach as I have the attitude that it's for my own use and none of my stuff would win any competitions
