I am still in a LotR frame of mind and I am impressed with myself as this is the 3rd week of painting Tolkien based figures. I feel that this project (whatever that may end up being!) will thrive, or not, based upon how I feel about painting the box sets of plastic figures. The first set I tried were warg riders. Below is the results....
They went together very easily and quickly, with a good variety of poses.
I decided to paint this box with 'white' flesh colouration as I feel that i will need more than 6 riders and the plan is to change flesh tone of each box to give a more chaotic overall appearance.
I think next time I will do greater variety of colours on the wargs as well.
I was quite pleased with the variety of weapon options and think if i get a few more boxes of them they will look quite effective en mass.
They will certainly add a bit of punch to the infantry forces of both Mordor and Orthanc.
The faces of the wargs are quite nice and characterful, more so maybe than some of the riders....
Here is the group shot. I need to get something better to use as a backdrop for my LotR stuff. Hopefully in time for next photo shoot.......
That's it for this post, and it looks like more Tolkien stuff next time as well!!!
Have a good few days and thanks for looking :)
Lovely paint job. Love the face on the Warg!
ReplyDeleteThank you. The faces were big enough to put a bit of detail on them. They look nasty enough, I think:)
DeleteThose look very nice indeed CW. Could you please go into a bit more detail as to how you painted the wargs please? It looks like a dry-brush of some red-brown and a grey for the flesh? I absolutely love the contrast :-)
ReplyDeletethanks Blax. It wasn't anything too technical. You are correct in thinking dry brush but it was base coat, brown ink wash, then two colours drybrush. It was a reaper triad - red brown. I think the greys are just GW colours and only 2 - base coat and highlight.
DeleteGreat job CW. Cavalry are always useful, especially ones that bite!
ReplyDeletecan't have orcs without warg riders, and probably lots of them!
DeleteCool looking cavalry force. I particularly like how you painted your wargs. As Simon said, nice contrast of colours.
ReplyDeleteThank you Bryan. I thing the riders will look less normal when they are mixed in with other flesh coloured ones as well.
DeleteGood stuff! I've always liked the GW LotR figures (I've a modest number of Orcs and Easterlings myself, mostly unpainted...)
ReplyDeleteThanks C6:) I have always liked the figures but the price, and the feeling of being ripped off, has always stopped me. Now I am just looking for bargains to expand my collection. Probably should have done this years ago....
DeleteThe figures looks great!
ReplyDeleteThanks Hobbyworker. Gamesworkshp have a habit of putting way too much detail on a figure for my liking but that does not seem the case with LotR, or at least I can easily ignore it!
DeleteVery nice. I do love the style of the LOTR minis. The warg riders are one of my favourite looking units I just love the style of the wargs. I had a modest dwarf army which I sold a few years back the move to finecast killing that one off.
ReplyDeleteI've never tried finecast but am aware of the issues surrounding it so am a bit wary. That's part of the reason I am using trade me and ebay to source out older, metal versions where they exist. The dwarves are an army I am particularly looking forward to getting :)
DeleteThe grey faces really set these guys off, nicely done CW.
ReplyDeleteThanks Zabadak :) Not normally keen on plastic sets but these were fun
