implausible cast members for a game of cowboys...

As I mentioned in my last post, I am putting on a cowboy game for a group of friends on saturday and, as I have a habit of doing, I have created a totally implausible plot that allows me to include an equally implausible array of figures, some of which may even be cowboys!!!
I will give more details of the game, both plot and hopefully in-game photos, in my next post.  The most pressing part of the preparation is I need 8 different factions, all of which need a scenario goal.  I have had some empire of the dead figures (from westwind) lying around since they arrived from a kickstarter about a year ago and although I love the figures I was never quite sure what to do with them.  However, now some of them will star in a western!!
One group will be headed by Queen Victoria herself, armed with a gatlin gun.
I feel that she should be able to take care of herself......
but if she gets in trouble she always has her faithful man servant, John Brown.  (just noticed that this pic is a little blurred but am a bit short on time to retake it.  Might retake it after the game if I get chance)
We are using a modified version of legends of the old west and shot guns are always fun in this.
The last 'non cowboy' member of Queen Victoria's group is Thomas Elgin, collector of antiquities.
I suppose he could quite easily fit in as a western figure with his dustcoat and pistol.
I have more figures that I want to finish before the game but I might be painting right up to the wire.
I will try and get pictures of the madness of the game!!!
now....back to painting......

  1. Lovely figures Chris. I wonder what John Brown is keeping in his sporran. Some sticks of dynamite for throwing perhaps? :)

    1. It will be interesting to see how she does. she may be a bit of a bullet magnet as she has a bounty on her head from at least one faction and you would just want to kill her before she cuts loose.

  4. I'm curious to know who the other seven factions will be. This looks very intriguing.

    1. I will try and spread everything over a couple of days as I like to encourage people to kill each other and interrupt each others plans as much as try and achieve their own victory conditions.

  5. Nice work. I have these myself in my Empire of the Dead pile. Something else I hope to return to.....

    1. I'm not sure if I will ever use them for empire of the dead so am trying to fit some into other games I play, hence queen vic in a cowboys game....

  6. Nicely painted, and who cares about implausibility as long as you enjoy the game? obviously there is a limit to just how much implausibility individuals can stomach but you must be doing it right if you've got away with it enough to make it a habit!! Well done sir!

    1. it is mainly an opportunity to do the dirty on your friends that keeps them coming back for more. :)

  7. It's obviously plausible, they're all from the same era right ?
HM should also have a couple of Ghurkas, a Sikh manservant, maybe a couple of ladies in waiting, some fawning toadies, Gladstone and of course some Grenadier Guards for good measure (just to be on the safe side).

    1. see... you are highlighting figures missing in my collection. Must go and buy some more for the lead pile! There are some nice 'in his majesties name' box sets that are on my radar and one of them has guards in it!
