Hasslefree survivors

As part of my 50th birthday present(Christmas eve so almost part of my Christmas haul but not quite), I got some Hasslefree modern survivors.  I am a big fan of these figures and even though I had to order them myself only for them to be taken from me and wrapped for the big day, I was still very excited to open them.  I was very pleased to find that they had included a few extras - something to do with changing factory buildings -  a couple were miscasts, although I could find nothing wrong with them, and one was zombie suzi.  I was particularly pleased with this!!!  There was also a bag of sweets inside.  All of this almost made up for the fact that they started a 20% off deal a week later!! :(
Anyway, I am over that now...all is forgiven and forgotten, and below is the figures I received (free stuff at the front)
I have enjoyed painting some of them over the last week.  I have completed 5 but the photo of one was a bit blurry so I will leave that until next time.
First up is Kendra.

Hard to say which figure I like the best of all the ones I received but this one is definitely in the running. Her name is Summer  Such an awesome figure.  She will turn up in a game at some point, I am sure.

Next up is Mad dog.  An interesting figure to paint.  I tried to give him y-fronts.  I think it sort of worked.  I just now need to build the model of a fire station I have for him to live in after the apocalypse!  I will put it on the list somewhere.....

Last up is Kat.  Another figure I like.  I thought green and white was a little more unusual that the red/white scheme I originally considered.
She looks more than capable of clearing out a few zombies!

I am hoping to get a few more painted over then next week but am getting a little distracted by the next episode of my campaign (played but not written up yet) and repainting some Arab buildings for a pulp Egypt game I am hoping to start at some point this year.  I will post pics of them when they are all repainted, along with some Artizan pulp figures I am hoping to get started on soon.

Another issue that has turned up is that now having started my 'All things Zombie' campaign I realise that I need a lot more terrain pieces to give it a greater variety so at some point(!) I need to start making more stuff, so expect that to start showing up soon as well.
This hobby is never boring :)

  1. Great stuff CW. Simply gorgeous paint-jobs. I love your style. Its great :-) Looking forward to another of your AARs and the Egyptian pulp sounds very good as well. Lots of projects on the go at once... we all know what that is like ;-)

    1. Thanks Blax :) Sometimes I wish I could just concentrate on one thing at a time! It is very unlikely though! Just wait until my 'war and empire' kickstarter stuff comes through or I figure out what I'm going to do with my 'empire of the dead' kickstarter stuff :0 !!
I have had 'larger than life' rules for a while and a collection of pulp figures I painted for an Egyptian one day game I put on for some friends, so I decided to put them together if I can only sort out the terrain I need. We shall see how it goes.

  2. You can't argue with the quality of Hasslefree. Beautiful figures!
Making scenery is a big part of zombie apocalypse gaming and can't be overlooked. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

    1. you really can't, and he keeps sculpting new stuff I want. Got an email this morning about a sale and some new figures he has just sculpted......
As to the terrain, I will have to work my may through all the zombie sites I look at to get ideas :)

    1. Thank you. It made for a nice, relaxed Christmas! Not sure how I became 50 though!!!
I love Hasslefree so it won't be long before I paint some of the others.

    1. I was rather pleased with them. They are very slim figures, which I usually shy away from as they don't suit my painting style, but I make an exception for these as they are such good poses.

  5. These are looking really good- that is quite the collection of Hasslefree which you have got to work through now.

And making more terrain is always a good idea, especially for Zombie games.

    1. It should keep me busy for a few days!! (Well, maybe a bit longer, especially if I get distracted........)
Its all the little bits of terrain I find I am missing. A few more buildings wouldn't go amiss but I feel I need lots of little blocking terrain pieces or things that just break up an empty space such as small sheds, different fences, out door tables and benches etc. This is probably my next thing to have a go at. Oh.... there's that distracted thing already.....:(

  6. Happy Birthday dude! That's an impressive haul, with some lovely sculpts.
You are doing a great job painting them man.
For terrain, foamcore and printouts are hard to beat. Check out some of Vampifan's excellent builds.

    1. Thank you! Well you are only 50 once so I thought I would treat myself! All of my buildings are foam core and print out. I am a great fan and I have some more to work on over the next few weeks if I get time. I saw them over on vampifans blog and am in awe of his skill ( and patience!!). Mine are poor attempts in comparison but I have a definite time period after which I get a bit bored and struggle to complete projects. For buildings its a couple of evenings and a figure it's about 40 mins!! I have the shopping mall file but I'm not sure where I would put it and if I would ever finish it so haven't started it yet.

  7. Hope you had a tremendous birthday and Christmas. Thats a super haul. Lovely looking figures. Loving the first five that you've finished. I'm trying to turn a Kat figure into a Black Widow conversion :)

    1. I had a good time thank you - my 5 yr old daughter made sure of that. She was very excited this year, more so than last year. I have no conversion skills but as soon as I read your idea for Black widow I thought what a brilliant conversion that will be. Very much looking forward to seeing it completed (no pressure!)
